Re-elect Debera McKeen for Ward 1
A Strong Voice for Ward 1
I believe the people who live in Ward 1 should have a meaningful say in the decisions that shape our communities.
Since being elected as your Ward 1 Councillor in April 2025, I have worked to bring your concerns to the table, ask questions, advocate for our communities and make sure Ward 1 is represented when important decisions are being made.
Today, I am also proud to serve Haldimand County as Deputy Mayor.
I am asking for your support in the 2026 municipal election so I can continue working for you.

Meet Deb
Ward 1 isn't simply the place I represent. It's home.
My husband and I live on our family farm near Jarvis, where we raise beef cattle. Our farm has been in the family for generations, and that connection has given me a deep appreciation for agriculture, our rural way of life and the communities that make Ward 1 such a special place to call home.
Before entering municipal politics, I spent 26 years working for Ontario Hydro and Ontario Power Generation. In 1986, I became Ontario Hydro's first female maintenance mechanic in the province.
Over the course of my career, I worked on the shop floor, in the field and in the office. I learned the value of practical problem-solving, accountability and working with people with different perspectives to get things done.
I've also had the opportunity to give back to my community through volunteer work, including leading the United Way campaign in Haldimand-Norfolk and providing financial support to local volunteer organizations.
Why I Ran for Council

I didn't run for Council because I was looking for another career. I ran because I was concerned about the direction of our community and wanted Ward 1 residents to have a stronger voice in the decisions affecting them.
That still drives me today. I believe Council should listen before it decides.
Residents deserve to know what is happening in their communities. They deserve the opportunity to ask questions, express concerns and provide meaningful input before important decisions are made.
Most importantly, they deserve a councillor who will listen to them and take their concerns to the table.
That's the kind of councillor I have worked to be, and the kind I intend to continue being.
What I Stand For
Responsible Development
I am not against growth. I am for responsible growth.
Development needs to make sense for the communities where it happens. That means considering roads, traffic, infrastructure, municipal services, the environment and the people who already call these communities home.
Growth should make our communities better, not simply bigger.
Protecting Our Farmland
As a farmer, I understand the value of agricultural land and how important agriculture is to Haldimand County.
Once productive farmland is gone, we don't get it back. I believe we have a responsibility to protect it and make thoughtful decisions about where and how our communities grow.
Protecting Our Small Communities
Ward 1's small towns and rural communities have identities worth protecting.
I want to see investment and opportunities come to our communities, but I also want to preserve the qualities that make people choose to live here in the first place.
Supporting Jobs and Industry
I spent much of my working life in the energy sector, so I understand what good local jobs mean to families and communities.
I support attracting industry, investment and employment to the places best suited for them while making sure those decisions are made responsibly.
Making Sure Residents Have Their Say
You shouldn't find out about an important decision affecting your community after the decisions have already been made.
I believe meaningful public consultation matters.
I will continue asking questions, encouraging public participation and advocating for residents to have a genuine voice in the decisions that affect their neighbourhoods, farms, businesses and communities.
What Ward 1 Residents Are Saying
The Work Isn't Finished
My first term has given me the opportunity to learn, build relationships and get to work on the issues that matter to Ward 1.
I've represented our communities at Council, served on County boards and committees, advocated with other levels of government and worked directly with residents on local concerns.
There is still more to do.
I know Ward 1. I know the issues already underway. And I'm prepared to keep asking questions, speaking up and making sure our communities have a voice at the table.
I'm asking for your support to continue serving as your Ward 1 Councillor.
